 It is the start of a new year, but it hasn't gotten off to a very good beginning. One of our best friends passed away on 7 January. Humphrey was a rescue from Minnesota Boxer Rescue. He was part of our family for 7 1/2 years. He was such a sweet, lovable boy. Happy, goofy, curious.

It is always difficult to lose a beloved pet. It is far worse to see your children go through such heartbreak. I've never really had to guide a child through loss before. There's no instruction manual for that. But my kids are wonderful. They are my inspiration to be a better human.

It's back to work tomorrow.  I am getting the itch to make myself useful again.  I can only be off work for so long and I need to do something.  I could not stay at home all day every day.  It's not for me. So today, since I had the day completely to myself, the task at hand was to do laundry.  And do laundry I did.  As I write this, every article of clothing in the house is clean, folded (mostly) and put away (kind of). My job here is done. While completing the menial task of washing clothes, I had the television on as a distraction.  As usual, since it's not football season, I dialed up Turner Classic Movies. Parenting is a tough job.  But I am determined to teach the Tax Deductions good from bad, as evidenced by this video demonstration of the Boy.  He learns quickly.  In fact, he goes so fast, you might have to watch it twice. Still, he's a keeper.

Target Taboo

Have you ever wondered how some things ever get past the "idea" stage? Especially when it comes from a big corporation like Target. We hate fat women. I read an article today that quite literally made me laugh out loud. Target recently removed a plus-sized dress from their clothing line because it came in the color "Manatee Gray." Since this is the United States of America, naturally somebody was offended by that particular description. I am guessing Target officials first rejected "Fat Albert Brown," "Brontosaurus Beige" and "Sperm Whale Blue" before settling on the not-quite-as-behemoth manatee. (Hey, it could have been worse.) A less offensive fat-ass... and cute as a bug's ear. Now don't get me wrong; I do not have a problem with plus-sized women.  I'd rather have too much to hold than not enough.
