Remodeling, Step 1

We are about to begin a long awaited project here on the home front.  We've had this on our calendar for the past eight months or so and we finally got the ball rolling this weekend.

Starting next week, the upper level of our home is going to be gutted and hardwood flooring will be installed.  Likewise, the entry way will be stripped and ceramic tile will take its place.

A lot of thought and planning has gone into the project and it will hopefully be done by June 1st.  Once everything is installed I think it will give our crib an entirely different character.

The first step: changing the color of the walls, which we started this weekend.  It has well over a decade since we've painted the upper level.  I guess it's about due.  Of course both the Wife and I work all week, so we are going to have to work in shifts to get it done.  But we will get it done.

Slathering on the primer.  Excuse the mess, we're remodeling.

Unfortunately, a consequence of this upgrade means temporarily living in a freaking pig sty.  Once the flooring installers arrived (you thought this was a do-it-yourself project?  Yeah, right!) and demolition begins, we will be escaping to the camper for the week.  Hey, at least the kids think it will be fun.

Work begins.
More updates will come as the project takes shape.

A couple of weeks ago we took advantage of a rare, beautiful spring day (it has been monsoon season, so it seems).  For whatever reason, the Girl was on an astronomy kick and she decided to draw a picture of the solar system in sidewalk chalk.  It was a cool project, but I wasn't sure if I should tell her there are eight planets or nine.  Pluto was voted out of the planet club, right?

The Girl's solar system, including a comet and other spacey things.

Lastly, I have found that cable companies are fickle animals.  Last week were having difficulty with our cable signal... no, that's no true.  We were not getting a cable signal.  Period.  We have cable, telephone and internet all with the same company, so this was a rather ironic situation.  We couldn't call them or even send an e-mail to let them know there was a problem (thank goodness for cell phones).

So the Wife calls on her cell phone and alerts them of our quandary.  The next thing you know, the cable representative declared that our monthly bill was too high and in a matter of a few minutes we were paying $60 less a month for the exact same service.

"Cable television; are you paying too much?"  Yes, I guess we were.

I appreciated the gesture.  Anytime I can pay less for the same thing I will do it.  But at the same time it kind of pissed me off too.  So, do I get a refund for last month and the month before that, etc., for paying too much for the same service?

No?

I didn't think so.

Well, so much for this post.  I know it's boring, but boring isn't always bad.
