Back in the Saddle

Not many folks blog anymore. Social media giants like Facebook and Twitter dug the blogger's grave; Snapchat and Instagram buried it. YouTube officiated the services.

But the world being what it is right now -- the first pandemic in over a hundred years and the entire country being urged to "Stay At Home," -- this seems like a good time to starting blogging again for a few reasons:

  1. My own sanity
  2. I like to write
  3. I can say anything I want and not have to worry about offending someone or getting into an argument with someone on social media.

My first blog entry right here was on October 25, 2007. I didn't have much to say, just a few meandering thoughts... not much has changed in 13 years. Like most bloggers, I fell victim to the ease of other social media platforms. But I've decided to go back to the beginning, so to speak.

Every now and then I explore other blogs (usually to find inspiration) and once in awhile I find something really interesting. One blogger, whose last entry was in 2010 (yet another abandoned blog) decided to post a picture or at least some kind of story about her day, each day, for a year. It was a really good idea and a great exercise in writing. But she only made it to 71 days. I always wonder what happened to that person. Did they just lose interest? Did they die unexpectedly? That's a morbid thought, but it is a possibility.

Sadly, that's what I find when I wander through what is becoming the blogging graveyard: most bloggers just quit, lose interest, preferring to waste time on games or answering fifty questions to find out what kind of bird they are, rather than thinking and writing.

During times like these, it is important to have some kind of "out." An escape from reality, because right now reality sucks, especially in my profession. My "out," especially during the evenings, is usually sports. Well, that's not happening right now.

So I will start writing again, to keep some semblance of sanity. My other therapy is playing drums
, which is a huge physical stress reliever (and pretty good cardio work out).
