Our summer camping tour 2011 - #2

Second stop, Two Rivers Campground, Royalton

Another camping weekend is in the books.  We spent a fun couple of days with the Budahns at Two Rivers.  The weather was perfect, maybe even a little too warm and humid (dew points in the 70s), but we didn't get rained out so no complaining here.

Our camp sites were right on the banks of the Mississippi River.  Brian and Lindsey's campfire was literally less than 20 feet away from the river bank.  The kids, of course, were attracted to that like flies to feces so we needed to keep a close eye on them, especially the Boy.  But it was all good and we had a great time.

On Friday night we didn't do too much.  We let the kids run around the campground until their legs couldn't carry them anymore.  The theory was that they will collapse with exhaustion and sleep like logs.  Great theory.  However, Mr. Neil decided sleep was for losers and stayed up until 1:00 AM.  I think it was just too warm in the camper and there was too much activity going on in the campground.  Sleep just wasn't cool.

Two Rivers Campground, July 10, 2011.  A very warm, muggy Sunday morning.  Trying to stay cool.

But Saturday was a new day.  We made our nearly-legendary pumpkin pancakes for breakfast.  Later, the girls took the kids swimming (Ava enjoys a second life as a fish) while Neil stayed with the guys and drank beer at the camp site.  Okay, so he didn't really drink beer, but he fetched it for us out of the cooler and was very proud of himself.  (I suppose I should not write any of this.  I'll have a social worker knocking on my door).
My new beer-fetcher.  Good boy.

On Saturday night, the Budahns made deep fried pork chops which were outstanding.  We spent the evening around the campfire, made S'mores and had a good visit.

Sunday was HOT and HUMID.  We had another great breakfast and then had to do the worst part of camping - packing up.  This is what happened about five minutes after hitting the highway:

Both kids were out and snoring.  Why couldn't they do that on Friday night?  Sheesh.

Our next stop on our summer camping tour:  Bob and Kathy's Paradise on the Lake.
