Catching up

Back home again and ready to go back to work tonight. We had a fun weekend at Dau's. We got there on Friday between thunderstorms and set up our gear. We had a small fire Friday night, but hit the sack pretty early.

Saturday was a long day. We got up and had family pictures taken by a photographer and had about 30 minutes to spare before the rain came. And it rained ALL day long. Sitting in the house cooped up with a bunch of stir-crazy kids wasn't exactly what we had planned for Saturday. By that evening we were ready to get out and do something, so we went to the New York Mills bowling alley (not a big place, but they had beer. At that point in time, it was all that mattered!). We stayed there for four pitchers of beer and two rounds of bowling and then went back to the house and made a nice fire, but Ava would not sleep. Then the rains came again, so we called it a short night.

On Sunday morning, Beth and I made our famous pumpkin pancakes with home-made apple cider syrup for the whole family and the day was perfect. We spent the entire day outside, played games and just had a fun time (we made up for all the rain on Saturday). The Murray family from Australia came late Sunday afternoon (they are old friends of Scott and Ann's). It was interesting to sit and visit with someone from another part of the world and get their perspective on things. They also happened to be big Eagles fans, so it was cool to have a quick connection (oh, the power of music!). We sat around the fire and solved a few of the world's problems Sunday night.

On Monday we packed up and headed home. Slept like logs last night... and now it's back to work for me. Man, is it ever hard to go back to work after a fun weekend. At least this week is broken up. I work two nights and then have the night of July 3rd off. This is supposed to be my "holiday" off, but I work the night of July 4th. Our contract says our holiday off is governed by which day the most hours are worked. Since I work just one hour on July 4th and the remainder seven hours are worked on the wee hours of the 5th, July 3rd is considered my holiday off. It is ridiculous, but I will be going to work while the fireworks are going off and I won't be collecting holiday pay. There's really something wrong with that.

Okay enough complaining.
